- Title
Editorial Commentary: Single-Dose Primaquine as Gametocytocidal Treatment in Patients With Uncomplicated Falciparum Malaria.
- Authors
Dondorp, Arjen M.
- Abstract
The author discusses the use of primaquine as a gametocytocidal drug for the treatment of falciparum malaria. He presents several studies which inform about the effectiveness and safety of the drug for malarial treatment excluding in patients with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) deficiency, a genetic disorder. He further suggests that the treatment of malaria will prevent the transition to develop gametocyte.
