- Abstract
BACKGROUND: Skin cancer has been increasing in recent years in young patients. Few epidemiological studies have been conducted on the subject. OBJECTIVE: To describe the prevalence of skin cancer in patients under 40 years old in the last 10 years at the Dr. Ladislao de la Pascua Dermatology Center. MATERIAL AND METHOD: A retrospective, descriptive study of cases of skin cancer in people under 40 years from January 2005 to December 2015 at the Pascua Dermatology Center was performed. RESULTS: A total of 2,660 patients were diagnosed with skin cancer, of which 7% (186 patients) were younger than 40 years old; basal cell carcinoma. CONCLUSIONS: of cases of skin cancer in patients under 40 years is increasing, mainly the cases of melanoma.
