- Abstract
The authors discuss the school-leaving examinations and first-year performance in mathematics in South Africa. They note media reports indicating that learners are poorly prepared at the school level. They mention the National Benchmark Test Project (NBT), which evaluates the relationship between the school-level exit outcomes and the high-education entry-level requirements. They note that the changes in entrance requirements are unlikely to apply to grade 12 in 2014.
