- Abstract
The incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) is increasing and mortality is still high (especially in less developed countries). Moreover, there has been an increase in the number of cases diagnosed in young people (under the age of 50), without a family history of CRC. At the same time, the rigorous application of screening recommendations, according to the guidelines, allows an early diagnosis of CRC, which, thanks to current curative treatment methods, correlates with a good prognosis. We studied the recent literature on the latest recommendations on CCR prevention, to highlight the role of the family doctor in their implementation. The family doctor has a key role to play in identifying non-modifiable and modifiable risk factors, in promoting protective factors, but also in informing patients about the risk of CRC, as well as about the available screening methods. Improving CRC screening rates depends largely on the involvement of the family doctor.
