- Title
Metabolism: Why high-protein diets work.
- Authors
Welberg, Leonie
- Abstract
The article discusses the function of peptides from dietary proteins as antagonists on µ-opioid receptors (MORs) on neurons within the wall of the portal vein. It references the study "Mu-opioid receptors and dietary protein stimulate a gut-brain neural circuitry limiting food intake," by C. Duraffourd and colleagues in the 2012 issue of "Cell." It suggests that the antagonism of intestinal MORs by food protein peptides induce intestinal gluconeogenesis.
