- Abstract
The article discusses the scarcity of pharmaceutical agents for the treatment of neglected infectious or tropical diseases in developing countries. The lack of a commercial market is a major factor contributing to the limited number of drugs available. The article highlights the importance of partnerships and collaborations between various organizations, including government, philanthropic, and private agencies, to support research and development activities for neglected diseases. It also emphasizes the need for sustainable approaches to stimulate and fund R&D activities in this field. The article describes specific partnerships and networks that have been established to address these challenges, such as the collaboration between the National Center for Drug Screening, the World Health Organization, and Novo Nordisk. The article concludes by emphasizing the importance of scaling up and sustaining these partnerships to support the development of new drugs, diagnostics, vaccines, and medical devices for neglected diseases.
