- Abstract
An energetic fused heterocycle was synthesized in a two‐step process described by D. E. Chavez and co‐workers in their Communication on page 12973 ff. Firstly, a double N‐amination of the bis(tetraethylammonium) salt of 3,3'‐dinitro‐5,5'‐bi‐1,2,4‐triazole provides a thermally stable, di‐N‐aminated energetic material that is insensitive to impact, spark, and friction. A subsequent azo coupling reaction produces a fused, tricyclic 1,2,3,4‐tetrazine ring system with excellent density and explosive performance properties.
