- Abstract
After the Cold War Central Asian region became the area of struggle between great and middle powers, especially the USA. The US regional policy aspects can be summarized as security, energy and democracy. This study considers the US policy toward Central Asia within the frame of democracy promotion policy. For this purpose, activities of the NGO's in Central Asia financed by the USA have been analyzed. The processes which have evolved since 1990 in and around the Central Asian region and "the color revolutions" that have been perceived as a part of "democratic wave" in 2000's, widely effected the region. The "post-revolutionary" situation persuaded the USA to rearrange the priorities of its foreign policy toward the region.
