- Abstract
For the past few years, the welfare of economic animals was quite important. Management of waterfowl focuses on non-open feeding due to the epidemic prevention which means the stocking density change and single feeding environment. To improve the welfare, decrease stress in animals need to pay great attention. The aim of this present study is to evaluate the effect of environmental enrichment devices (EED) on growth performance and feather quality in White Roman goslings. 600 one-day-old White Roman goslings were randomly allocated to control (CON, no EED), three types of EED (TF-turkey feather, BS-braided straw, HAY-hay) groups for evaluating the growth performance and feather quality during 1-28-day-old period in goslings. Results showed there was no difference in feed intake and body weight gain among the trial. FCR in EED groups were better than CON. Goslings at 14, 21-day-old had good feather quality in EED groups. In conclusion, adding EED could effectively decrease feather pecking and improve the feather quality before 21-day-old period in goslings. There was no negative effect in adding EED on the growth performance of goslings.
