- Abstract
The article discusses a study which assesses the differential contribution of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) and visceral adiposity to plasma inflammatory biomarkers in adult men. The study involved 45 consecutive, overweight male patients who showed biopsy-proven NASH as well as 45 matched, overweight male patients without hepatic steatosis on ultrasound. Liver histopathology demonstrated NASH with fibrosis score of 0 in 13 participants among NASH patients. It was found that NASH can predict a more atherogenic risk profile.
