- Abstract
he electrical discharge machining is based on developing electrical discharges between the closest asperities existing on the active surfaces of tool electrode and workpiece. Due to the presence of the electrical discharges, always a work gap must exist and this means that, for example, in the case of ram electrical discharge machining of small diameter external surfaces of revolution, diameter of hole existing in tool electrode must be higher than diameter of the obtained external surface of revolution. Some machining schemas were proposed and succinctly analyzed and preliminary experiments were made in order to prove the theoretical considerations. The preliminary experimental results highlighted the possibilities to obtain small diameter external surfaces of revolution on a ram electrical discharge machine.
