- Abstract
This article aimsto analyze the processes of registration and safeguarding of the indigenous and quilombolas' memory and heritage through golden grass handicraft in Jalapão, State ofTocantins. The presence of the Xerente culture amongthe quilombola community of Mumbuca emphasizes the role of tradition, that in the face of the effects of Post modernity on relations of sustainability, seeks, not only, along with the Instituto do Patrimônio Histórico e Artístico Nacional (IPHAN) but also with the Instituto Nacional de Propriedade Industrial (INPI), the geographical origin of its products as income increase mechanisms, competitiveness in the market, within the principles of an Economy of Culture that enhances the quality of handcrafted products and the customer's loyalty.
