A reprint of the article "The Founding of the Eureka Benevolent Society of San Francisco, 1850" by August Helbing, which appeared in the December 27, 1895 issue of the newspaper the "Emanu-El," is presented. It discusses the history of the philanthropic organization the Eureka Benevolent Society, based in San Francisco, California. Details on the organization's aid to Jewish widows and orphans and on its finances are presented.
