Ear exams as easy as 1-2-3.
- Authors

- Abstract
The article provides information on methods used by a physician in performing ear examinations in children. According to her, children tolerate the otoscopic examination much better when they can predict how long it will last. She simply count softly, as slowly as necessary, to three, sometimes in Spanish. With the process, the child learns to anticipate how long the examination will last. One problem is when an eager parent also joins in, counting more quickly than intended. Another method she use when the otoscope itself distresses the child, is by shining the light directly to her diamond ring which calms the child.
