- Abstract
This article presents a pediatrician's guide to preparing families for travel to developing countries. It outlines the unique health concerns of pediatric travelers as well as the travel needs and concerns of adolescents, children with a disability and children with chronic diseases that need to be addressed by both parents and pediatricians. It discusses some of the common general advice about travel safety. It offers tips for preventing foodborne diseases and lists recommended items and ways to prevent exposure to insects which carry life-threatening diseases such as malaria, dengue and Chagas disease.
