- Abstract
Cephalopachus bancanus is currently categorized as vulnerable by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). This population decline occurs due to habitat decline and high exploitation. Understanding the behavior of the Cephalopachus bancanus couple pair in conservation can be used to support animal breeding in terms of supporting efforts to conserve this endemic animal and not decrease its population. Therefore, this study aims to examine the social behavior of the couple of Cephalopachus bancanus to obtain data and information on social behavior in the conservation cage of the Primate Research Center, Bogor. The social research observed included: allellomimetic behavior, allogrooming behavior, agonistic behavior, playing behavior, and sexual behavior. The analytical method used are focal animal sampling and instantaneous sampling with one-zero time sampling. The results of observations for 5 periods showed that the allellomimetic behavior that had the highest frequency was 40% with a duration of 134 minutes, allogrooming behavior showed a frequency of 37% with a duration of 121 minutes, behavior agonistic frequency 18% with a duration of 61 minutes, playing behavior shows a frequency of 4% with a duration of 12 minutes, and sexual behavior shows the lowest frequency, which is 1% with a duration of 4 minutes. The conclusion of this research is that the social behavior of Cephalopachus bancanus couples is mostly allelomimetic behavior and the least is sexual behavior.
