- Abstract
This may be relevant for treating alopecia areata, chemotherapy-induced alopecia or aggressive scarring alopecias, including use as bridging therapy while patients await meaningful hair growth from other medical treatments. Dear Editor, Hair loss has a profound impact on psychosocial health and quality of life.1 Patients living with alopecia may be at increased risk of depression, anxiety and low self-esteem.2 Alopecia also presents a significant financial expense, with 25-2% of patients describing a serious economic burden and 18-2% indicating income loss due to missed work.3 Despite this, treatments for alopecia are inconsistently covered by health insurers.1,2,4 While there exist several effective medical therapies for alopecia, and promising novel therapeutics in development, camouflaging techniques, such as cranial prostheses, remain an important element of patient management.
