- Authors
Hodes, Catherine
- Abstract
When it comes to recognizing the power dynamics in partner violence, the role of socially granted privilege has often been ignored. To understand how power-over functions in relationships, the nuances of various privileges are worth examining. Privilege could be based on gender, race, or social advantage. When we consider how privilege can be used to oppress and coerce, it brings the lens of power into sharp focus. In this article, the author describes how privilege can be used to oppress abused partners in a wide range of relationships.
