Objective: To understand the experiences of nurses in the care of patients with neoplasic wounds. Methods: This is an exploratory qualitative study carried out in a philanthropic hospital that provides care to patients with advanced cancer disease. The data were collected between 2016 April and June through interviews guided by a semi-structured script and analyzed by the Bardin Content Analysis Technique. Results: Conceptions related to care were identified and observed that humanized care have the high rate of answers. The participants perceived care as attitudes of professional assistance, concern, patience, love, dedication and support. Conclusion: It was shown that nurses understand care as science and art of nursing, given that they perform a humanized, holistic care and develop empathic skills in the face of patient suffering, promoting care actions with a view to the patient's physical and psychic comfort, thus providing well-being and dignity in the process of illness and death.
