- Abstract
The radiographic alveolar crest level is most often related to the cemento-enamel junction (cej). A computerized method is described to measure the cej-alveolar crest distance on digitized images of bitewing radiographs with a high degree of reliability. Briefly, the method is as follows: The radiographic image is capture with a TV camera connected to an image analysis system. The radiographic landmarks are identified on a video image. A computer program was developed to determine the cej-crest distance in a line parallel to the long axis of the tooth. A series of rules are described for marking the cej and interproximal crest, taking into consideration anatomical variations.
