- Title
Pocket Movies: Souvenir Cinema Programmes and the Danish Silent Cinema.
- Authors
Sandberg, Mark B.
- Abstract
This article examines the significance of cinema programmes in Danish cinema during the silent film era. One function of the programmes was providing useful background information that would have been awkward if inserted in intertitles, particularly since the long-form narrative feature was just beginning to emerge at this time. The author also speculates that the programmes helped films escape rigorous examination by censors. The programmes would deemphasize any controversial elements and the resulting products helped create Denmark's reputation as the home of the erotic melodrama.
