- Abstract
This preliminary study provides a combined sound therapeutic strategy (called T-MIST) for the management of tinnitus patients with normal hearing thresholds. The Residual Inhibition Test (RIT) was conducted using narrow-band (NB) noise matched to tinnitus frequency presented to the tinnitus ear at 10 dB above perceived tinnitus loudness for 60 seconds. Of these, 12 patients had tinnitus in the left ear, 12 had tinnitus of the right ear and 28 had bilateral tinnitus. Roberts et al[11] suggest that in tinnitus patients, frequency-specific inhibition sound presented at suprathreshold levels provides sufficient suppression over the tinnitus signals by decreasing tinnitus-related spontaneous neuronal activity within the auditory system.
