- Abstract
To satisfy the requirement of a chip package, Nd2O3 addition was adopted to improve the thermal, mechanical, and dielectric properties of CaO-B2O3-SiO2 (CBS) glass–ceramics. The reduction of activation energy from 165.86 to 114.73 kJ/mol indicated that Nd2O3 doping promoted the sintering process of CBS glass–ceramics. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that an appropriate amount of Nd2O3 additive improved the crystallization of the CBS system, while suppressing the formation of cristobalite. The amount of Nd2O3 significantly affected the mechanical properties and thermal expansion curves. The dielectric properties, however, were not observably affected by Nd2O3. In general, 0.5% Nd2O3 doped CBS glass–ceramics showed good properties: α = 11.32 × 10−6/°C, σ = 203.3 MPa, φ = 76.2 GPa, εr = 5.36, and tanδ = 9.9 × 10−4.
