- Abstract
The article analyzes the influence of the corpus luteum on estrus synchronization protocols in sheep. It was found that the presentation of estrus was low in the short treatments, which affected the pregnancy rate. In addition, differences in the concentration of steroid hormones were observed in the short treatments. The importance of using ultrasound to evaluate ovarian level is highlighted. The results showed significant differences in the presence of estrus between treatments, with conventional protocols achieving 100% estrus. Furthermore, a high pregnancy rate was observed in the 11-day treatments. These findings can be useful for improving reproductive efficiency in sheep. It was found that long estrus synchronization treatments had a higher percentage of pregnancy compared to short treatments. In addition, differences in P4 and E2 concentrations were observed between the different protocols. These results suggest that the duration and presence of a functional corpus luteum can influence the reproductive response of sheep. The importance of administering prostaglandin F2α at the end of the treatment in short periods is highlighted to avoid the negative effect of the corpus luteum on the estrus response.
