- Abstract
Objective: to identify the naturalization from the journalistic construction of five issues related to environmental damage, through the causes and effects registered in the news which are composed of text and photographs and published on the EFEverde website. Methodology: a qualitative and semiotic approach served to classify and analyze the linguistic and visual discourses of a news sample. The categories used for the analysis were three codes: linguistic, denotative and connotative. Results: the causes of environmental damage are attributed to deforestation, "El Niño" and "La Niña" phenomena, a heat wave and, the global temperature; that is, natural factors. Conclusion: the media (owners and journalists) are involved in the social construction with respect to environmental issues. A journalistic discourse, (re)producer of "a truth" that, as in this case, attributes environmental issues to natural phenomena, it does not help an ignorant reader to reflect on the main factor of environmental damage: the human being.
