- Abstract
The article focuses on a study on the relation between micro-ribonucleic acid (miRNA)-137 promoter methylation and poorer overall survival in patients diagnosed with squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck. It mentions that the 60% overall five-year survival among patients with head and neck cancer has remained the same in the 30 years leading to 2011. Processes undertaken in the study are discussed, one is tumor tissue sampling. It cites the involvement of miRNA-137 in the cell cycle control as a factor behind the poor survival rate.
