- Abstract
The article reports on the views of several researchers including John Mattick, John Rinn and Chris Ponting, on the identification of functional and nonfunctional regions known as genomic deserts in the genome. It informs that according to the Encyclopedia of DNA Elements (ENCODE) Project Consortium, 80 percent of human genome and less than five percent of functional long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) are functional. It mentions that profiling of gene regulation impacts human health.
