- Abstract
In this paper, a novel optical switch PCDS (photonic code-division switch) using the simultaneous capacity of the prime code has been proposed. According to the transmission route, selecting the prime code forms this three-layer network architecture. The components composing the PCDS and the method of data routing are explained in detail. Moreover, the PCDS uses the variable decoder and the variable encoder to replace the demultiplexer and multiplexer during the transmitting process for all of the apparatus, so the cost of the network can be reduced and the structure of the network also can be simplified. This network code-switching arrangement provides one-to-one, one-to-multiple, and broadcast characteristics. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Microwave Opt Technol Lett 28: 381–385, 2001.
