- Abstract
Most guidelines for curative criteria after endoscopic resection of T1 colorectal cancer (CRC), such as those of the United States, Europe, and Asia, including Japan, include tumor differentiation as a risk factor for lymph node metastasis (LNM).1 Surgical resection with lymph node dissection is recommended if poorly differentiated adenocarcinoma, signet-ring cell carcinoma, or mucinous carcinoma is diagnosed on histological examination. 1).3,4 There are also some Japanese reports in which it is unclear whether the differentiation was diagnosed as predominant or highest grade.2 The risk of LNM depends on how histological differentiation is classified.
