On Doctoring in the COVID-19 ICU.
- Authors
Barrett, Eileen D.; Smith, Cynthia D.
- Abstract
The article discusses the mental health consequences faced by healthcare professionals during the COVID-19 pandemic, including mood disorders, moral distress, and moral injury. It highlights the need to destigmatize mental health diagnoses and care, and mentions the American College of Physicians' Emotional Support Hub, which provides peer support, counseling resources, and practical videos for physicians. The article also emphasizes the importance of reducing barriers to physicians seeking mental health care, such as revising medical credentialing and licensing applications to not stigmatize mental health. The authors encourage physicians to engage in advocacy and support access to mental health care throughout their careers.
