- Abstract
Using multimedia strategies to decrease obesity and eating disorders in prevention programs for children is a promising approach that has shown good results. The current challenge for their dissemination is implementing and evaluating these programs to ensure their validity in different countries. Recently, a group of researchers from Spain developed and evaluated an "intelligent e-therapy system" (ETIOBE). The program involves learning through a multimedia training system on nutritional habits, physical activity and lifestyles. Objective. The present study aims to validate the psycho-educational component results of the ETIOBE system in Mexican population. Method. A sample of 149 children from Mexico City participated in a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design study. Results. The results show significant improvement in the mean scores of nutritional knowledge about foods. Discussion. The results of this study indicate effective changes in health knowledge and the promotion of healthy lifestyles.
