- Abstract
The article discusses the importance of consent for newborn screening issues. Topics discussed include newborn screening without consent with state statutes mandating phenylketonuria (PKU) screening in the 1960s, recommendation of National Academy of Sciences (NAS) expert committee for informed consent to be a prerequisite for newborn screening, and absence of entity to require new ideas in newborn screening to be tested prior and with no requirement for scientific studies or informed consent.
