- Abstract
This article discusses whether whole-body FDG-PET ([sub18]F-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron emission tomography) is valuable for health screening. Cancer is still the leading cause of death in developing countries. The success of cancer treatment is highly dependent on early detection. There is a need for a highly accurate screening method that is easy to perform and non-invasive or minimally invasive. Whole-body FDG-PET may fulfil this need. Whole-body FDG-PET might be the most powerful tool for cancer detection when it is used in combination with tumour markers and other imaging modalities.
