- Abstract
Hoffa disease is one of the important causes of anterior knee pain. Anterior knee pain can be originated from patella, joint capsule, synovial plica, patella tendon apophysis, iliotibial band, femoral condyle and fat pad. Anterior knee pain can become chronic at a rate of 70-90%. There are 3 fat pads in the anterior part of the knee: anterior suprapatellar (quadriceps), infrapatellar (Hoffa) and posterior suprapatellar (prefemoral). Hoffa disease is a clinical condition characterized by inflammation of the infrapatellar fat pad, one of the 3 fat pads in the knee joint. Advanced imaging methods are recommended for examining soft tissues. The diagnosis of Hoffa disease is made by clinical examination and magnetic resonance imaging. It is often overlooked because it can be confused with other clinical conditions that cause anterior knee pain. In this article, a 63-year-old female patient who was diagnosed with Hoffa disease and successfully treated with duloxetine is presented.
