- Abstract
The aim of this study is to examine the views of music teachers on reaching the objectives of Turkish Folk Music in the 2018 secondary school music curriculum. The study was designed in a qualitative research approach and is a case study. The study group of the research consists of ten music teachers who work in public secondary schools affiliated to the Ministry of National Education (MEB) in the 2021-2022 academic year and are determined by easy sampling and on a voluntary basis. In the study, the data were obtained by using online platforms, telephone and face-to-face interviews. Semi-structured interview forms consisting of questions prepared by the researchers were used in the interviews, and the interviews were recorded using audio and video recording devices. The recorded interviews were dictated and the findings were analyzed with the descriptive analysis method. The findings and results obtained from the analysis were converted into tables and supported by direct quotations from the opinions expressed by the participants during the semi-structured interviews. Findings of the study show that that the four objectives, which are at the focus of the study, are mostly not transferred in accordance with the aims of the curriculum and most of the time, these objectives for folk music are neglected. At the same time, it has been determined that there are some omissions related to the curriculum and it was also determined that they neglected other genres other than folk music and art music from concepts such as mehter music, religious music, folk music, art music, polyphonic Turkish music mentioned in the learning outcomes. In line with the data obtained from the research, suggestions were made for the area covering the research topic and for further studies.
