- Abstract
Oxbows are one of the most threatened biotopes in our country. The biota of 13 oxbows in the catchment of the lower Blanice River was surveyed in 2016 and 2017. Environmental characteristics were described and 25 species of hydrophytes, six species of fish and five species of amphibians were documented. Both environmental conditions and low species richness correspond to the significant degree of degradation of the habitats. The current river regulation does not allow for natural formation of new oxbows, hence proper management of those present is of high importance. This study can be considered as a background for future evaluation of the success of planned restoration measures.
