- Abstract
The structure and properties of glasses with the composition xSb2O3-(100-x)(26.4Fe2O3-73.6P2O5)-5.05As2O3 (x=0,5,10,15,20 mol%) have been characterised by x-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Raman and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and differential thermal analysis (DTA). The XRD analysis indicated that antimony oxide is readily soluble in iron phosphate glass, which was benefit for the immobilization of arsenic. The Raman and FTIR spectra showed that Sb2O3 played dual role in the glass - low contents (≤10 mol%) of Sb2O3 were proved to convert Q2 to Q1, Q0 units and high contents (>10 mol%) converted Q1, Q0 to Q2 units , resulting in a loosening and a compaction of the glass structure, respectively. The Tg and ΔT values from DTA showed that increasing additions of Sb2O3 lowered Tg monotonically and improved the thermal stability, respectively.
