- Abstract
The article outlines the approach to the treatment of severe obesity in childhood. Topics discussed are the initial assessment, clinical treatment of severe obesity in children and adolescents, the role of pharmacotherapy in adolescents with severe obesity, the association of weight loss surgery with reductions in body mass index (BMI) and improvements in weight-related co-morbidities, and special considerations for state intervention in severe, life-threatening childhood obesity.
