- Abstract
Lippia nodiflora is a creeping branched herb found in wet places belonging to the family Verbenaceae. This plant is known to possess cooling, diuretic and febrifuge properties and used in stoppage of bowls and pain in knee joints. The crude ethyl acetate leaf extract of this plant was found to have antibacterial activity against Salmonella typhi, staphylococcus aureus, Vibrio cholera, E.coli. Thin layer chromatography of ethyl acetate fraction showed 8 visible spots. The dark greenish purple spot visualized by TLC showed antibacterial activity when tested in vitro. Infra red spectrum of the active compound was also performed which revealed the presence of phenolic, carbonyl and aromatic functional groups.
