- Abstract
The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of growing rabbits fed on dry mash with different lipid sources. The biological assay was conducted from April to June, at the cuniculture laboratory of the Federal University of Santa Maria. A total of 30 New Zealand breed rabbits weaned at 35 days of age, individually housed in 70x50cm cages. The animals were subjected to the following treatments: TB = diet with addition of 2.5% pork lard; TOG = diet including 2.5% of sunflower oil; TOS = diet with 2.5% soy oil addition. The feed was provided ad libitum under the mash presentation. Feed and animal weighing was weekly registered. Animals were slaughtered at 90 days. The performance parameters evaluated were: weight gain, total feed intake, and feed conversion. Also, a sample the hot carcass of four animals per treatment were evaluated, liver weight and skin weight. The design was completely randomized and the means were submitted to ANOVA and Tukey test at 5% significance using SAS statistical software. It was observed that the lipid source does not significantly alter the performance, carcass weight, liver weight and skin weight.
