- Abstract
The article titled "Cardinal Belluga in Rome (1721-1743). Conflict of loyalties" analyzes the stay of Cardinal Luis Belluga in Rome during the 18th century. The author, Maximiliano Barrio, uses his extensive knowledge of Church history and thorough archival work to explore Belluga's relationship with the Spanish monarchy and the papacy. Through little-explored documents, Barrio shows that Belluga's contribution to the interests of the Spanish monarchy was minimal, as his opinions were hardly taken into account in Madrid. However, Belluga always positioned himself in favor of the Church, and his actions in papal conclaves demonstrate his independence and awareness.
