- Abstract
In the current context of ecological and environmental crisis, the Inquiry-Based Collective Activism approach for addressing Socially Acute Questions has a significant potential to provide Environmental Education with a transversal and integrative character. This research analyses the development of Sustainability Consciousness of 31 in-service pre-school and primary school teachers at the “Huertas Viejas” public school, who designed and implemented educational proposals based on this approach to address issues related to the water bodies of their locality (Coín, Málaga) during the 2022/23 school year. A mixed approach is employed, combining quantitative and qualitative perspectives, where a pretest-posttest study is conducted on a validated questionnaire, alongside discussion groups with teachers supported by participant observation. The analysis of the questionnaire reveals a positive trend in the development of Sustainability Consciousness, but no statistically significant differences are obtained. Conversely, the analysis of qualitative data indicates positive impacts on teachers' development. This apparent contradiction is discussed on the basis of the characteristics and applicability of the Sustainability Consciousness Questionnaire and some relevant experiences of the teachers are analysed.
