- Abstract
The article provides a historical perspective into the problem of Caesarism that has been haunting U.S. democracy. Topics discussed include the monarchy or absolute power exhibited by Seventh U.S. President Andrew Jackson, expansion of federal government power under 15th U.S. President James Buchanan, alleged abuse of presidential power and nepotism by 18th U.S. President Ulysses S. Grant, and structural changes in the U.S. political economy that transformed perception so the American Caesar.
