- Abstract
This article discusses a case study of an 18-year-old woman with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) who was being treated with Tetrabenazine (TBZ) for a tic disorder. The patient experienced acute dystonic reactions (ADRs) characterized by involuntary upward eye movements and jaw posture after taking a higher dose of TBZ. The ADRs were resolved by adjusting the TBZ dosage. The article highlights the importance of recognizing ADRs in patients with tic disorders or ASD and suggests that biological factors associated with ASD may increase vulnerability to central nervous system side effects.
