- Title
Can We Safely Apply the Ottawa Ankle Rules to Children?
- Authors
Runyon, Michael S.
- Abstract
The author ponders on the application of the Ottawa Ankle Rules (OAR) in assessing blunt ankle trauma in children. Overview of OAR is offered, including the changes made by Stiell and colleagues on the rules in the early 1990s. The author comments on a study on the use of OAR to identify ankle and midfoot fractures in children. He argues that OAR is an excellent alternative to routine radiographs to diagnose fractures in children.
