- Abstract
The article "Stanislawski vs. Data Stars: Fluid Spaces of Young Actors in the Digital Age of the People's Republic of China" by Raimund Rosarius examines the special position of actors in social media in China. Actors are influential and often criticized due to their popularity and presence on digital platforms. The article explores the negotiation spaces that actors have when they are part of digital capitalism and exposed to the political-moral interventions of the Communist Party. It also addresses the special role of actors in Chinese society and social media. The article focuses on the influence of digital capitalism on acting in China. It points out that the internet has not led to a global brotherhood and strengthening of democracy as originally assumed, but rather has been conquered by the mechanisms of the market system. Digital capitalism has developed in China under the influence of a protectionist policy known as the "Great Firewall of China." It emphasizes that China and the USA represent different models of digital capitalism despite similar development logics. In China, individuals who adhere to the government's moral guidelines are privileged, while deviants are deprived of social privileges. It argues that actors in China operate in a space between authoritarian forms of digitized rule without having to choose between good and evil. In the case study "Who Provides a Breeding Ground for Data Forgery?" the role of Renmin Ribao, the top Chinese state newspaper, in combating data forgery in the internet age is examined. The pamphlet, published on January 5, 2019, on the social media platform Weibo, is part of the Chinese government's efforts to correct the behavior of young actors on the internet. Renmin Ribao has a long tradition as an instrument of rule and also published the pamphlet in printed form in Guangmin Ribao. Criticism of actors is expressed through shame and public humiliation and aims to preserve the acting tradition in China. The pamphlet also addresses changes in fan culture and the impact of digital capitalism on the relationship between stars and fans. It criticizes the increasing commercialization and loss of cultural connection between stars and fans. The pamphlet criticizes the practice of data forgery in the acting industry and notes that high salaries are often the result of data forgery, not popularity or talent. It argues that data forgery is a necessary part of an acting career in digital capitalism. The pamphlet mentions two examples of actors who are accused of data forgery. It also notes that data forgery can damage the reputation of the People's Republic of China in the world. The text deals with the different spaces and risks for actors in the digital age in China. It discusses the debate about Cai Xukun and Dilireba, both active in the entertainment cosmos. While Cai Xukun is associated with data forgery, Dilireba is considered an actress. The authors emphasize the different spaces for action and risks for both artists. It also addresses the role of digital media and Chinese society in shaping the public image of actors.
