- Title
Adapting to the DEEP SEA: A FUN ACTIVITY WITH BIOLUMINESCENCE.
- Authors
Rife, Gwynne
- Abstract
The article discusses several classroom activities that can make lessons on the deep sea and bioluminescence more fun for middle school students in the U.S. To give students a feel for the physical parts of the deep sea, teachers should include in their lessons a brief explanation on the absence of visible light in the deep sea, the coldness and stability of deep-sea surroundings and the amount of hydrostatic pressure in the region that can reach as much as 16,000 pounds per square inch. Discussions should also include details on deep-sea animals and their unique bioluminescent properties.
