What Constitutes a Desirable Program of Studies in Science Education for Teachers of Science in the Elementary School?

- Abstract
The article presents information on educational programs for science teachers in elementary schools. In the judgment of the teachers of science, widely-spread teacher training institutions show that, general kindergarten teachers have less preparation to teach science than to teach music, drawing, reading, language or physical training and about the same preparation in science as in arithmetic or geography. The same judgment is also applicable for primary teachers. The intermediate grade teachers apparently have less preparation in science than in reading or language and approximately the same as in music, drawing, geography, arithmetic or physical training. Teachers who find, that their preparation in science is not suitable to the demands which they must meet may well be easily discouraged and do unsatisfactory work.
