- Abstract
This article presents the main findings on diet and cancer risk from an integrated series of multicenter case-control studies conducted in Italy. A low-risk Mediterranean diet for cancer would imply increasing the food intake of fruits, vegetables, cereals and wholegrains, and fish, as well as avoiding increasing the consumption of refined carbohydrates and red meat. Olive oil should replace saturated fats wherever possible.
