Public Administration Review: The First Fifty Years.
- Authors
Cooper, Phillip J.
- Abstract
It is appropriate at the fiftieth anniversary of the Public Administration Review to look back at the proud moments and the accomplishments of the journal's first half century. It is equally important to consider the forces and challenges that have shaped its development as well as those which seem likely to affect it in the years to come. This examination of the Review focuses on the first decade of publication, PAR at its silver anniversary, and the Review as it approaches its half century point. In the process, it includes excerpts from leading articles that are significant in their right but also typify important aspects of the journal's life and character What emerges is a picture of a journal which has served its field well, by maintaining, against difficult odds, the interaction of academic and practitioner perspectives on public administration. It faces new challenges and a continuing need to address classic problems; but then so does public administration as a field.
